About us

DONG BAN JA means to accompany people.
The society was founded in 2005 as intercultural hospice “Dong Heng”. On April 2009 the hospice service became a project of the Humanistische Verband Deutschland (humanistic society Germany)/ state association Berlin. The name was changed into DONG BAN JA.

Across Germany almost 20 % of the entire population are of non-German origin. When they grow old most of them won’t return to their native country for dying.
Berlin is home to over 40,000 people from East Asia, originating from countries such as China, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines and Japan.
We accompany all people who need our help,  regardless of believes or nationality meaning people of foreign countrys are welcome.

Foreign customs and different beliefs as well as dissimilar notions of illness and different ways of expressing pain can lead to misunderstandings in everyday situations.
We have therefore made it our objective to come alongside people from different cultural backgrounds and their family members, people who are dying or in need of care, and offer them support that is sensitive to their culture. Unfamiliar customs and different beliefs as well as dissimilar notions of illness and different ways of expressing pain can lead to misunderstandings in everyday situations.
We have therefore made it our objective to come alongside people from different cultural backgrounds and their family members, people who are dying or in need of care, and offer them support that is sensitive to their culture. Dong Heng Interkultureller Hospiz-Verein e. V. is a registered association founded in 2005, offering voluntary out-patient care for the sick and dying. In the long term we plan to set up an in-patient hospice.
